We left
Lancashire from Alan & Jan Taylor’s early in the morning. Meeting at
Leadhills to start rabbit shooting, there were ten of us the first
morning and seven of us the next day.
David Wood gave a little chat about safety and what we were looking to
do over the next couple of days. We split into two groups and started
hunting up the marsh grass areas to find plenty of pheasant poults which
gave us a good opportunity to get the dogs dropping to flush. It did
make the triggers twitch a few times! But we managed to work the dogs in
different areas over the two days with a few partridge to shoot on the 1st
September.
Unfortunately the area had Myxomatosis, we did find a few healthy
rabbits, but it is such a horrible disease. We had a very social weekend
staying in Thornhills & at the Trigony House Hotel, which kindly cooked
our grouse for us.
The one sad part of the weekend – we were missing our friend and
instructor Clive Miller with his knowledge and dry sense of humour. But
we toasted him with a few drams of Dalwhinnie whisky.
