6 8 10 - This years CLA Game Fair was another busy one for the society with
a daily demonstration in the Working Dog Ring and much interest in the
breed. It was good to see so many members - several who found themselves in
the ring at various times!
Movement now reads as
"Moving
straight fore and aft, with effortless drive." The "Rolling gait
attributable to long body and short legs."
has been removed. Long live a sound and healthy moving
Clumber !
I would like to say
thank you to everyone for their kind words & support last year. Without the
warmth & kindness of my friends, it would of been a very dark lonely journey
fighting Breast Cancer.
I am pleased to say I
have finished my 8 sessions of chemo, and 4 weeks of radiotherapy, then the
rest of my treatment herceptin should be finished by July 2010 so it will be
18 months of treatment altogether but I am sure 2010 is going to be a much
more positive year.
I would also like to
say thank you to all of you that have supported me raising money for Breast
Cancer research. The amount so far is just under £16,494.22 and still going.
But my dogs and passion for the WCSS,
shooting & picking up has made me determined to get out during the season
which has certainly helped me deal with all of this in a positive way. So
here’s to a good 2010, I have attached a photo of me out shooting at the end
of the season in one of my wigs, some of you may not recognise me!!

A lovely dry day, which proved quite warm going for the 14 entered dogs
12 Clumbers, 1Sussex and 1 Welsh Springer who started the trial. The grounds
were perfect for the dogs and thanks to Nick Gregory and his team of
helpers, all the dogs and handlers had the perfect opportunity to show their
skills under the experienced judges.
The Kennel Club has issued their latest initiative on the
health of pedigree dogs - Breed Watch . For more information and how this
relates to Clumbers see the Health Page.
28 7 09 The CLA Game Fair is over for another year - great to see new
faces and dogs over the weekend. A successful, busy and exhausting
time was had by all - Janet Cox did a sterling job with the commentary in
our demonstrations each day. The Clumbers not only enjoyed the working
demonstrations but also enjoyed singing with the Belvoir hounds at 4 each
morning too!!! Photos to follow when I get them sorted out...
New Page added for
Litter announcements -
please contact
Jackie if you want your
litter put on the website.
Pups in Cumbria, Beatrix Potter would have loved these!
Some relaxed pups.
More pups being born across the Country - contact Debbie for details. Most owners seem to be being able to get their pups docked legally.
.
Please note that
the Society only "recommends" puppies , from litters that have come
from parents that conform to the Society's aims i.e. both been hip scored
and be active and healthy. See the
puppy page or Debbie
for more details.
Phew !
Well the CLA Game Fair is now over for another
year. What a scorcher - the heat was overwhelming.
We had a good crowd visiting over the 3 days and
the 11 Clumbers taking part in the demonstrations in the Working Dog
Ring each morning did well. Check out the CLA Game
Fair report for photos and report to follow....
Roe Froman a Vet
and Clumber owner from the USA has announced a "new online health survey
that is now available for Clumber owners worldwide.
It is the
Canine Phenome Project, and it is
hosted by the University of Missouri, in the US. It is accessible to any Clumber
owner with a computer. The Phenome Project allows owners to enter all their
dogs, and update their health and longevity info at any time.
It is password protected, so an owner can select from open
information (anyone may view), to only other users, to private settings. This
helps with confidentiality fears. Anyone, including researchers, can access
general information and survey totals (i.e., number of dogs with allergies, for
example) but they will not have names or registration information tied to them."
The survey
questions are similar to the KC survey done a few years ago and the website
allows owners to register with it, enrol their dogs and fill out a survey for
each dog, that can be updated at any time if necessary. This will be an
excellent resource for all to know what are the main health concerns with the
breed and could encourage future research into health issues within the breed.
The results are displayed instantly - as a percentage of the total number of
dogs surveyed.
Take a look and
please make time to enter your dogs - old and new as the more dogs entered will
give a much better view of the state of the breed in general.

There were 14 dogs
running with some welcome new faces at the trial, some dogs had
incredibly long runs, others were not in quite as long.

We met at Stogumber the 2nd November.
A warm day where shirt sleeves was the order of the day. Another
memorable day on the Brendon Hills.
At the request of the Clumber
Spaniel Club, the General Committee of the Kennel Club has recently
approved a new official DNA testing scheme for PDP-1 in the Clumber
Spaniel.
This test is offered by the Animal
Health Trust and further details can be obtained by emailing
info@aht.org.uk
Copies of all future test certificates issued by
the AHT will be sent directly to the Kennel Club, where the test
result will be added to the dog’s details on the registration
database. This will trigger the publication of the test result in
the next available Breed Records Supplement, and the result will
also appear on any new registration certificate issued for the dog
and on the registration certificates of any future progeny of the
dog.
Owners who have already had their dog(s) DNA
tested for these conditions are asked to send the test certificate
into the Kennel Club and the data will be added to the dog’s
registration details. In addition, if the owner includes the
original registration certificate for the dog (not a copy) then a
new registration certificate will be issued, with the DNA result on
it, free of charge. Please send the DNA test certificates to:

Docking
From 6th April, 2007 in
England docking will be only allowed for exempt working breeds, Clumbers are
included, Although only as long as you have a Vet that is willing to agree to
the administrative requirements and pressure from the RCVS, who continue
to discipline vets who dock within the law. The Council of Docked Breeds are not
sure how many Vets are willing to dock within these regulations - so from April
the chances that all Working Clumbers are docked are fairly low.
In Scotland any
pups born will all legally have to be left undocked.
Wales has even
different laws ! Here Clumbers are not included in the list of breeds
allowed to be docked - although there isn't a ban of driving puppies
across the border....
