A cold crisp and dry day
met the determined few that turned up to this trial. It very easily
could have been lost through illness and injury, with dogs being
scrapped from the card due to their or their owners ailments at the last
minute. Fortunately all the remaining 12 dogs did arrive at the venue
and the trial was on!
We also had old and new members of the
Society attending to view and help out at the trial - unfortunately these
keen souls then either helped steward or became game carriers or extra
dog holders. Everybody is useful at a small event such as this.
There was plenty of game and the dogs
instantly were finding scent to get them interested. The Judges were
very impressed in the improvement of the breed over the past few years,
being amazed at their ability to scent and find game. All of the dogs
worked purposefully and were keen to find and retrieve game. Some
unfortunately a bit too enthusiastically.
At the end of the trial there were
still 6 dogs left in - all gained awards.

John Gibson with Webster and Bailey making the most of the break. |
|
Poor John had come all the way from Northern Ireland and felt really ill. He kept going, working his 2 dogs, through both runs. Bailey getting a 3rd place at only their 2nd trial - so it was worthwhile. |

Ian and Ammil |
|
Not only was there illness , Ian decided to twist his ankle as the trial started. He endured Ammils 2 runs and some of Janners but kept going too. Here he is resting at the end of the trial, at least Ammil was still ready to go. It was worth in the end! |
