HAREWOOD HOUSE GAME FAIR

25th & 26th MAY 2008

On the May Bank Holiday weekend Gordon and I put on our new WCSS fleeces and set off for the 1st Harewood House Game Fair. The event was far more ‘local’ than the CLA events but still had many excellent exhibitors, demonstrations and trade stalls. The crowds turned out on both days, with Sunday being especially busy – well exceeding expectations.

The Gun Dog section was organised by Louise Bailey (Irish Water Spaniel group) and she did a fantastic job, organising every one and making the whole Gun Dog experience a huge success. The Working Clumber stand was very busy – all the time! And from a PR point of view is was well worth being there as many of the visitors had never seen Working Clumbers before. Needless to say every one fell in love with the dogs!

I did a five minute introduction about the breed and the aims / objectives of the Working Clumber Spaniel Society, in the ring. Gordon then did demonstrations – on both days – showing the basics of puppy training with 7 month old Frankie and more advanced work with Chester. And in spite of all the distractions both dogs performed remarkably well. Several of the spectators sought Gordon out later to ask his advice on training problems they were having, so clearly Gordon did OK as well!

All of you who have run stands at Game Fairs will know how hard and tiring they are, and Gordon and I would like to thank all those members of the WCSS who gave their time to help us. Without them the event would have been very difficult to manage and not as successful.

Ben & Myra with Frankie,

David & Charlotte with Bumble

Steve & Sandra with Bryn

Keith & Val with Henry

Paul & Joanne with Molly

This first game fair was a huge success and I expect the WCSS will be represented at many more in the future.
